Arvine Cecil (A.C.) Brown, Jr. was born May 15, 1928 in Danville, KY.  He was the son of Arvine and Sally Margrave Brown. The family moved to Tennessee when A.C. was still an infant, and he grew up in the small community of Sunbright.  After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, beginning his service on September 27, 1946 after the official end of World War II. Mr. Brown was stationed at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia until his deployment on December 10, 1946 as part of the military occupation of Japan. During his training, he received qualification as an expert carbine marksman, and he was assigned to work as an automobile/truck mechanic. During his enlistment, Brown attained the rank of Tech Sergeant 4. He was stationed in Japan during the first free elections after the war and was awarded the World War II Victory medal as well as the Army of Occupation medal for his service. Sgt. Brown returned from deployment on January 19, 1948. He was discharged January 27, 1948. Following his discharge, former Sgt. Brown used the benefits from the G.I. Bill to become an electrician which led to his eventual employment with the Southern Railroad rising from apprentice electrician to general foreman in his 30+ year career. He and his wife, Greta, were blessed with two children, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was also very active in the Erlanger Lions Club.
