On May 5th, 2020, during the Council Meeting, three ordinances were voted on and passed by the Erlanger City Council.
An ordinance that updated the compensation for elected officials passed with an 8-3 vote. This ordinance does not increase the pay of council members; however, it does alter the distribution of the existing dollar amount. The base compensation of each member of the City Council is set at the sum of $3,167.76 per year, payable in equal monthly installments. Each member of the City Council will also receive $50.00 per regularly scheduled City Council Meeting, Special Meeting of the City Council, and regularly scheduled City Council Committee Meetings. This meeting pay will be up to a maximum of $100 a month for each City Council member. There will be two (2) paid absences allowed per calendar year. The next ordinance that was voted on was an ordinance to increase the dollar amount of the Erlanger Scholarship from $1,500 to $2,500. This increased passed with a vote of 9-1 with 1 abstention. This ordinance can be view below and will be incorporated into the next fiscal year budget.
The final ordinance that was passed with a unanimous vote of 11-0 created a new program in the City of Erlanger. The Abandoned Property or Blighted Demolition Program was established to promote and induce improved real estate values and to reduce blight and abandoned buildings. This grant gives the eligible owner the ability to apply for an amount of matching funds provided by the City of Erlanger not to exceed the lesser of $10,000 or 10% of the property value for all costs incurred to demolish all or part of the blighted or abandoned building, including the cost to clear the site. This ordinance does not fund this program; it just simply establishes it as a new program that the City of Erlanger can offer. To view the entire ordinance, click below.
