The meeting of the Urban Forest Commission (UFC) was called to order by Tom Mauntel at the Erlanger Public Works facility on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at 4:04 p.m.
Meeting Minutes – September Meeting
The September meeting minutes were approved by Diana Niceley and Jason Iames.
Discussion Items:
Annual Board Member Appointment
The Board discussed the following one-year appointments:
- Chair – Johnna Herrmann
- Co-chair – Beth Rosplock
- Secretary – Tom Mauntel
These appointments are effective starting in the February 2026 meeting.
Tree City USA designation
- Our application was submitted.
- This will be our 4th year for this designation once National Arbor Day approves.
- Lauryn Gross wants to feature our designation on City of Erlanger social media
Mission Statement Review
The commission reviewed the UFC mission statement and all agreed the mission statement is current and valid.
Eons Dog Park Tree Selection Opportunity
We talked about the opportunity to select trees for Eons Park dog park. We need a combination of shade and ornamental trees. Some ideas to get us started are listed below:
- Flowering dogwood
- Red maple
- Ruby sunset maple
- Willow oak
- Eastern redbud
- Northern red oak
- White pine
- Century maple
Additional Planting Opportunities:
We talked about the opportunity to plant some trees in front of the Public Works building. This could be the location for the Arbor Day tree planting event.
Arbor Day Tree Giveaway (spring event)
- Thursday, April 16 is proposed for the Arbor Day tree giveaway
- Meeting to be held 4:00 p.m. to 4:30, with the event from 5:00 -7:00 p.m.
- We will confirm this date in the February meeting.
Arbor Day Planting Event (fall event)
Discussed October Day Arbor Day Event – plant the trees here, tour the building, meet the Public Works team
Action Items:
- Jason and the team will send us measurements for the dog park area.
- All commission members are to visit the dog park site before the February meeting so that we can make tree recommendations.
