Following medical school, Dr. Tom Donovan served as a doctor in the U.S. Navy for two years from 1959-1961. The first year was in Okinawa as the surgeon for a Marine Corps regiment. His final year was at the U.S. Navy Hospital, Balboa, in San Diego, where he and his wife, Mary, spent their first married year together. 

In 1961, he returned to Northern Kentucky and soon after began practicing medicine in Erlanger, initially on Commonwealth Avenue, then later on Erlanger Road. Dr. Donovan passed away in 2021, just a few months shy of his 88th birthday.
