Jim and Carol met in the Navy in the Great Lakes. They married on base in 1958. They have two children, Gina and Dennis. They have three grandchildren, Ian, Taylor, and Kyle, and two great grandchildren, Alshton and Valor. 

Jim was a member of the VFW Post 6423 in Elsmere; Carol a member of the ladies auxiliary. Both were very active members of the American Legion Post 20 in Elsmere. Both served as the Commander of the Legion. Jim served as the post commander for one year, Carol served for two years. Both were long time members of the Honor Guard. Jim received a 50 year membership accommodation from the Legion. 

Jim was a long time member of the Fleet Reservation Association (FRA). Carol, a long time member of the ladies auxiliary for the FRA (LAFRA), was also a member of the WAVES National Association. 

Jim traveled the Mediterranean during his career. In the US, he was on the Navy bowling team. He retired after 21 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer. Carol served for four years. She requested to be honorably discharged so she could travel to Chile with Jim for three years, then returned to the U.S. 

The military was their passion. They loved and served their country.
