Jim Nichols joined the Navy on June 22, 1965, three days after graduating from high school. He was able to sail around the world on a WWII Destroyer with a short stop in the Gulf of Tonkin. Being as he did not like working in the engine room, he became a Hard Hat Diver, thus having two years of pure fun never to be repeated.
