ORDINANCE NO. 2584
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 33.07 OF THE ERLANGER CODE OF ORDINANCES ADDING THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY
WHEREAS, the City of Erlanger is desirous of better integration between the police and fire department and the eventual creation of crossover positions; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public’s interest to better provide for public safety and centralize the leadership of both the fire department and police department; and
WHEREAS, the City of Erlanger has created a new non-elected officer, Director of Public Safety; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF ERLANGER, COUNTY OF KENTON, COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY:

Section I
§ 33.01 ESTABLISHMENT OF POSITIONS.
Pursuant to KRS 83A.080, there is hereby created and established by, in and for the city, non-elected offices of the city with the following titles:
(A) City Administrator;
(B) Director of Finance/HR;
(C) Police Chief;
(D) Fire/EMS Chief;
(E) Director of Public Works; and
(F) Director of Economic Development.

§ 33.08 DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY
The Director of Public Safety is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of both the Police and Fire/EMS departments. This role provides oversight, leadership, and administrative guidance to the Chief of Police and Fire Chief, ensuring that all law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services are conducted effectively, safely, and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Director ensures acollaborative approach between both departments, addressing community needs and enhancing public safety initiatives.
Section II
That should any section or part of any section or any provision of this Ordinance be declared invalid by a Court of competent jurisdiction, for any reason, such declaration shall not invalidate, or adversely affect, the remainder of this Ordinance.
Section III
That this Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force when passed, published and recorded according to the law.
